30 April 2021: The Interior Ministry of Afghanistan reported a suicide truck bombing that struck a guesthouse in Pul-e-Alam that killed 21 and injured as many as 91 on Friday. The blast struck just as the guests were breaking their fasts during the month of Ramadan. No one immediately claimed the responsibility of the attack and the reason for targeting the guesthouse is still unknown. While the bombings came on the eve of the offcial date set for the start of the final withdrawal of U.S. and NATO troops from Afghanistan, there is no indication that the bombing was linked to the pullout of the troops and there are no US or NATO troops in this provence.

Violence has been on a rise in Afghanistan since Joe Biden announced that the US would be withdrawing its troops from Afghanistan by September in order to end the 20 year long war while the deal made between Taliban and Donald Trump that specific military groups would be gone from Afghanistan by May 1. Though the Taliban have expressed their anger and issued threats because of this extension of the deadline they haven't claimed the attack in Pul-e-Alam and the US troops have already started leaving the countries with American bases being dismantled.

The United Nations has strongly condemned the attack on Friday and the UN Secretary General Antonio Guetteres has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the attack and the government and the people of Afghanistan in his statement. In a separate tweet, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said that it was outraged by the attack and added, "Our thoughts are with the families of the victims."
