International Mother Language Day has been celebrated on 21st February every year since 2000. In this way, UNESCO wants to remind us of the importance of linguistic diversity as cultural heritage and seeks to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by peoples of the world. Increasingly, minority languages are being threatened. Therefore, it is important to preserve these languages and to guarantee access to a mother tongue-based multilingual education.

Traditional knowledge and cultures are transmitted and preserved though multilingual and multicultural societies.

 CD4Peace, which aims to promote and protect Cultural Diversity Expressions and Sustainable Development in order to enhance Human Rights and to facilitate Conflict Resolutions, reiterates the importance of preserving and promoting all languages around the world in order to build more inclusive and peaceful societies.
