On 28 March 2021, a suicide bombing was carried out in a cathedral in Makassar in Indonesia. There are at least 20 wounded. The strike occurred during the Palm Sunday Mass, a Christian holiday on the Sunday before Holy Week. The suspects in the attack are said to be linked to the terrorist group Jemaah Anshorut Daulah (JAD) affiliated with ISIS.

Makassar, the largest city in South Sulawesi, has a large Christian community in this predominantly Muslim country. In 2018, the country experienced similar acts of violence against the Christian community, especially in the city of Surabaya. In recent years, Indonesia has faced religious conflicts that undermine its model of religious coexistence. The Indonesian authorities insist, however, not to link the terrorist act to any religion or community so as not to increase religious tensions in the country. Some observers think that this strategy is bad because it does not allow us to find real solutions.

CD4Peace encourages the authorities to fight against religious radicalism by adopting a healthy strategy. Indeed, religious training is important in order to prevent cases of radicalization. This is also important in order to promote cultural diversity and peace in society.
