Preservation of Cultural Heritage Sites During the Pandemic COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the halt of restoration of the Topdara Stupa which is an ancient Buddhist shrine located in Afghanistan. The importance of health embodies not only the physical or mental health of human beings but also has drastic effects on the protection of cultural heritage.

The lack of proper health and well-being led to a worldwide lockdown that unfortunately hindered or in some cases worsened the process of restoring cultural heritage sites. The Global Observatory notes that "cultural sites can be peace hubs that help maintain reconciliation processes, which in turn can foster environments that bring communities together under a common umbrella to learn, understand, and live peacefully together."

CD4Peace appreciates cultural heritage sites as a means of harboring unity and peace.
